Application Principle: The welding arc is generated between the welding wire under the flux layer and the base metal. The arc heat melts the surrounding base metal, welding wire and flux, causing partial evaporation. The evaporated gas of metal and flux forms a bubble, in which the arc burns. The upper part of the bubble is surrounded by an outer film composed of molten flux (slag). This outer film and the un-melted flux covering it jointly isolate air, insulate heat and shield optical radiation during welding. The molten droplets of the welding wire fall and mix with the partially melted base metal to form a molten metal pool. Part of the slag floats on the surface of the molten pool due to its low density. As the welding wire moves forward, the arc force pushes the molten metal in the pool to the rear of the pool. During the subsequent cooling process, this molten metal solidifies into a weld seam, and the slag solidifies into a slag shell covering the surface of the weld metal. During welding, the slag not only provides mechanical protection for the molten pool and weld metal, but also undergoes metallurgical reactions (such as deoxidation, impurity removal, alloying, etc.) with the molten metal, thereby affecting the chemical composition of the weld metal.
